Playoffs continue Saturday
Only one Onslow County team in the girls soccer playoffs will be at home today.
Swansboro looks to take advantage of rest coming from its opening-round bye as the Pirates host East Central 2-A Conference foe East Duplin at 5 p.m. in the second round of the NCHSAA 2-A playoffs.
Swansboro (16-3-1) earned a pass in the first round after winning the ECC. East Duplin (12-8-1), a wild card from the ECC, defeated North Brunswick earlier this week.
The Pirates swept the regular-season series with the Panthers, winning 3-2 and 5-0, respectively. The winner of that contest will battle the winner between South Brunswick (17-4-1), the top seed from the Waccamaw Conference, and Croatan (11-9-1), another ECC wild card. The Cougars upset league foe Southwest in the first round.
Richlands (14-6-2), the ECC's second seed, travels to North Lenoir (13-3), the top seed from the Eastern Plains, with kickoff slated for 3 p.m. The Wildcats topped Edenton Holmes 1-0 on Wednesday.
Dixon (16-3-2), the second seed from the Coastal Plains Conference, travels to Trask (7-12), the top seed from the Waccamaw Conference, for the second round of the 1-A playoffs. The Bulldogs defeated James Kenan 3-0 on Wednesday. Topsail (18-4), the CPC's top seed, will host league foe East Carteret (4-8), a wild card.
White Oak, Jacksonville and West Carteret each won their second-round 3-A playoff games on Friday.
Also, Southwest's first-round 2-A playoff baseball game at First Flight slated for Friday was postponed until today at 3 p.m. due to inclement weather.
